I mentioned in my previous post that it rained in all the right places and this theme continued into the next day.
Overnight the rain simply didn’t stop. No bad thing as persistent rain under canvas has a very hypnotic and soothing effect – provided your tent doesn’t leak, of course.
It rained all night
By breakfast time it had all but cleared up, although still very overcast. Not having a fixed schedule to stick to we took our time and left the campsite about 10:30 making our way to Brecon for lunch prior to heading homeward.
On the way to a stop-off at Llyn Brianne reservoir, Clive wanted to take photos of the Towey valley (or was it the Usk?) so we pulled over. Quite often when I view a landscape the big picture doesn’t inspire me, so I went for a foxglove shot with the mountain range in the background.
The Llyn Brianne reservoir is certainly impressive, our first sight giving us a view looking down on what I think would be the turbine house at the bottom of the dam.

Moving on, we found the road that led to the top of the dam where there was a conveniently placed car park. The view from the top looking down on the turbine house was even more impressive than from the bottom, and anyone affected by vertigo would be advised against peering over the top of the barrier which enables pedestrians to cross the dam.

Finally, here’s a shot of the reservoir itself. Can you see the vapour rising in amongst the trees, probably from a stream feeding into the reservoir?

It took us an hour to drive to Brecon where I bought a Vango Compact gas Stove. When I say compact, it must be all of 4″ tall by 2″ wide; and at almost half the price of Clive’s one (MSR) it would have been silly not to get it.
From there we discovered a tearoom we’d missed the previous day, and tucked into a Full English Breakfast, for lunch.
Heading home the sun deigned to put in an appearance. OK, the weekend wasn’t rain-free but so glad we didn’t go to The Lake District!
